Walnut Canyon

Just east of Flagstaff is Walnut Canyon where you can take in an interesting journey back in time.. not only in terms of man but in geology. Here you can tour cliff dwellings where a culture survived as far back as the 1100s. The facilities provide you with a complete education on the peoples who populated these dwellings.

There is also a million years of geology locked up in the confines of Walnut Canyon National Monument. Look down 400 feet to the bottom of the canyon. See how life zones overlap in the plant world. Observe wild animals.

You can hike the trails down to the dwellings. Ranger guided hikes are available at certain times of the year. There is a museum to provide you with both anthropological and geological data.

You can reach Walnut Canyon by taking I-40 east out of Flagstaff.
