One of the more fun and exciting ways to travel to the Grand Canyon is to take "The Train".. the Grand Canyon Railway. Based at the old railroad depot in Williams, AZ, about 30 miles west of Flagstaff just off I-40, this unique way to tour the Grand Canyon is an experience that will keep you discussing it for years to come. Begin your excursion with a stay at the Grand Canyon Railway hotel.. shop for souvenirs in the gift shop and then board the train for a scenic trip to the Grand Canyon.
In the summer months, the Railway uses an historic steam locomotive to take a train load of excited guests to the south rim of the Grand Canyon. Modern day diesel engines take over in the snow months of winter. While on board, the crew of the train can engage your questions about the Canyon or the area, musicians provide lively entertainment.. BUT.. beware of the Train Robbers and a possible old fashioned shootout.
After arriving at the Grand Canyon, you will have several hours to gaze at the spectacle before you, go shopping, have lunch and take as many photos as your memory card will allow. Then, you board the train and return to Williams late in the afternoon.
One of the most popular features in northern Arizona is the Grand Canyon Railway Polar Express departing for the North Pole beginning in early November. Santa Claus and the Railway crew will provide your kids and you with a most memorable holiday trip.
